Baby, it's COOL outside when wind is added to chill! 51 degrees or so -- plus brisk wind. Hurtling down Wheats Valley Road, I remind myself of what happens when you jump into a cold lake. After the initial shock, you adjust, and have a great time.
Turn left on Gunstock Creek Road, and turn into a headwind. Battle it to the top, in a gear lower than usual. Down the other side. Did I mention that it was COLD?
Have "Oh, shit" moment when I turn onto Sedalia Schoolhouse Road -- and the wind is exactly at my back. A tailwind -- for the SHORTEST line segment of the circuit. Turn right onto 122 -- and find self buffeted by a sidewind. Buckle down and undertake. Pull off and park beside road when big rigs approach -- you can hear and see 'em a half-mile or more away. And if you have a sense of self-preservation, you do not share the road with these behemoths -- you cede the road. And wave cheerfully as they go by, with a generous allotment of space.
Mill Stone Tea Room -- turn right -- and right into a headwind. Arrive home to learn that a tire on my car is flat. What a day!
(1) Went is the past tense of wend, by the way.
