As I went down the Big Island Highway on a party sunny day, the spotty sunlight created amazing effects on the scenery. At one point, a patch of light crowned a hilltop with standing corn. The mountains were painted in several different palettes, depending on such variables as sun, shade, and distance. Going up Gunstock Creek Road, the woods, lovely, dark, and deep, had vivid beams of sunlight that penetrated here and there to the forest floor.
