It's time for my favorite 16-mile loop. Go up to the road, turn left. Follow Wheats Valley Road to the end, turn left. Follow Jopling Mill Road to the end, turn left. Cruise down 122 to the Mill Stone Tea Room, turn left.
As the adventure began, the cloud cover did indeed cover the sky. I crested Kennedy ridge, then dismounted to turn on my tail light, and looked across the valley towards the Peaks of Otter. A bank of cloud rolls in a eye level. I reach the pavement a half-mile or so later, and the clouds are around me. Then above me. It's a great day for making haste, so I do, averaging 9.6 mph for the trip.
Coming up Wheats Valley, the wooly lid of cloud seals things off a few hundred feet overhead. No spectacular vistas, but getting out and moving is in itself a feast of sensations.
This is my fourth ride for the week, and I'm somewhere between 45 and 50 miles to the good.
Stay tuned -- every season is lovely in its own way, and Spring approaches.
